Dear Self,
You can’t win unless you put some skin in the game. It’s gotta be your skin though and not just hopeful wishing while watching others play the game!
You can’t experience the joy of winning while you’re unengaged, sitting comfortably in the bleachers.
It’s easy to peer from the sidelines and watch others play the game (and even be envious of the milestones they’ve accomplish.) But the truth is, they put some skin in the game, which is why they are where they are today. They didn’t just watch from the distant sidelines.
Winners are willing to step out onto the field, do whatever it takes to learn the ins and outs of the game, and pay the price by getting into the thick of it. In fact, in the process of playing the game, they often get scuffed up, bruised and tackled unexpectedly from behind.
Those playing the game experience injuries and setbacks along the way, but that doesn’t stop them.
And, by the way, they don’t instantly win the first time they play the game. It’s a process of learning and getting back up again and again when they get tackled.
Self, in order to win the game it’s gonna cost you some skin. But the skinny truth is, that’s what’s required of you. The game is yours to play if you want, but you have to get out on the field and play instead of enviously watching from the sidelines.
You know that I’m your biggest cheerleader! The next step is up to you though. How are you going to get off the bleachers today and start playing in the game?
