Baptism of Christ

Author: Matthew Riley

Yellow morning filled
The banks of the Jordan.
The mud felt cold between his toes,
A fog soaked into his camel haired clothes,
As he spoke the will of the father.

A voice of one calling,
“Prepare the way of the Lord.“
A voice of one calling,
“He will clear His threshing floor.“
A voice of one calling,
“He will gather up and store,
All that is His
Repent and live! “

Sinner and seeker filled
The banks of the Jordan.
Wading in, confessing sin,
Receiving cleansing from within,
As John lifted them from the water.

A voice of one calling,
“Prepare the Way of the Lord.“
A voice of one calling,
“He will clear His threshing floor.“
A voice of one calling,
“He will gather up and store,
All that is right.
Receive new life!

The Lamb of God stood,
Along the banks of the Jordan.
Precious Son of Man,
Fulfilling God‘s plan,
With the baptism he received.
Gods spirit from above,
Descended like a dove,
Declaring, “this is my son that I love,
And with him I am well pleased.“

A voice of one calling,
“Prepare the Way of the Lord.“
A voice of one calling,
A voice of one calling,
A voice of one calling,
More of Him and less of me.
More of Him and less of me.
