Kindergarten

Author: Matthew Riley

With a swoosh and a sigh the door opens wide,
And we watched him climb up the three huge stairs.
One last determined step and he is swallowed there.
We run the length to check each seat,
Until we find his eyes, soft and sweet.

And the bus moves on…

And Tammy looks down.
She stares at the ground,
And says, “my baby is gone.“
We’re all alone on the street,
as the tears fill her eyes.
I struggle to speak,
Pull her close to my side, and say:

“Who’s gonna tell them about Daniel and the Lions den?
And change their world, change their world!
Who will take them from the beginning to Gethsemane?
Who will tell them that their sins were nailed to a tree?
And explain how God paid the price for you and me,
And saved the world, saved the world!“

“Who was gonna tell them about the empty tomb where Jesus was laid?
To save the world, save the world.
Who is gonna tell them how their debt is fully paid,
To save the world, save the world!“

“Who will tell them about how the stone was rolled away?
How he died but rose again on the third day.
And how one day soon he’s coming back this way,
To save the world, save the world!“

She took my hand as we walked away.
Knowing that a young man of God started school today.
